Chennai Engineer Links 300+ Farmers to 15,000 Families

Archana Stalin saw two problems that perfectly solved each other. Urban families wanted fresh, healthy food but lacked space and time to grow it. Rural farmers had the land and skills but no way to reach conscious consumers directly.

The Chennai entrepreneur left her IT career and marketing roles to bridge that gap. In 2016, she and her husband moved to a village, leased farmland, and learned farming firsthand. Two years later, myHarvest Farms launched as a platform connecting farms directly to kitchen tables.

The journey began on Archana's own terrace. She started growing vegetables at home with her husband for healthier eating. Soon, she was helping 180 urban families set up their own terrace gardens.

But she realized most people didn't have the space, time, or knowledge to farm themselves. Meanwhile, skilled farmers in rural areas struggled to find buyers who valued their work and would pay fair prices.

Starting with just 18 families and one farm, Archana built a subscription model where families paid upfront. This gave farmers steady capital to grow without financial stress. When COVID-19 hit, the platform adapted to an agile order-based system that worked better for both sides.

The Ripple Effect

Today, myHarvest Farms works with more than 300 farmers and delivers to over 15,000 families. The platform has expanded beyond seasonal vegetables to include traditional rice varieties, cold-pressed oils, and healthier snacks, all sourced organically.

The impact reaches beyond produce sales. myHarvest trains rural women with skills for corporate roles, creating new opportunities in their communities. For young farmers especially, the platform offers a way to build stable livelihoods without leaving their villages.

What started as one engineer's terrace garden experiment has grown into a sustainable bridge between rural abundance and urban need, proving that the shortest distance between farm and family creates the longest-lasting change.
