Chile and Colombia Get 2.5 GW Clean Energy Boost

Verano Energy is bringing a wave of clean power to South America with projects that could transform how two countries get their electricity.

The company is developing more than 2.5 gigawatts of renewable energy projects across Chile and Colombia, backed by battery storage systems that solve one of solar power's biggest challenges. These batteries store sunshine during the day and release it at night, making renewable energy available around the clock.

In Chile, two massive hybrid projects are taking shape. The Domeyko project pairs 83 megawatts of solar panels with enough battery storage to power thousands of homes through the night. Construction is nearly complete, with the solar installation 90% finished and batteries already in place.

Right behind it comes the Observatorio project, an even bigger effort featuring 123 megawatts of solar capacity. Both projects together represent a $394 million investment and will deliver power under long-term agreements with major Chilean companies.

Colombia is getting its own renewable energy makeover. The country's first Verano project, a 13-megawatt solar plant in the Atlántico region, has all its panels installed and will soon generate enough electricity to power roughly 10,000 homes annually.

The company isn't stopping there. Three more solar projects totaling over 40 megawatts are already in development, with two additional utility-scale projects planned for the next five years.

The Ripple Effect

This expansion represents more than just new power plants. Battery storage technology is changing the entire conversation about renewable energy reliability in Latin America.

For decades, solar and wind power faced criticism for being unpredictable. These massive battery systems address that concern head-on, storing excess energy when production is high and releasing it during peak demand hours.

Verano Energy has already built more than 60 solar plants across Latin America and raised over $800 million for renewable projects. The company's focus on financially sustainable projects backed by long-term purchase agreements gives local governments confidence that clean energy can be both reliable and economical.

As these projects come online over the next few years, they'll reduce carbon emissions while proving that renewable energy with storage can compete directly with fossil fuels on both cost and reliability.

Chile and Colombia are showing the rest of South America that the clean energy future isn't just possible, it's already being built.
