By storing excess clean energy during the day, Chile can replace fossil fuel power plants that traditionally ramped up during evening hours.
The investment is also creating economic opportunity. Environmental authorities approved 14 new clean energy projects worth $828 million in June alone, with 71% including battery storage components. Another 87 projects representing $18.7 billion in planned investments are currently under environmental review.
