Chinese manufacturer Sungrow will supply the PowerTitan 2 battery units and solar inverters for the project. The company is also committing to a 25-year service agreement, ensuring the system stays operational for decades to come.

The facility, called Observatorio, will begin commercial operations in early 2028. Chilean utility Copec EMOAC has already signed on to purchase the electricity generated.

Verano Energy has already developed over 60 solar projects totaling more than 800 megawatts across Chile and Colombia. The company has another 2.5 gigawatts of renewable projects and 2 gigawatt-hours of battery storage in various development stages.

Their Domeyko Solar project, combining 83 megawatts of solar with 660 megawatt-hours of battery storage, recently completed installation and will begin operations by the end of 2026. That makes it one of the first major solar-plus-storage facilities in Latin America.

The growth of battery technology has been a game changer for renewable energy. Just five years ago, storing solar energy at this scale was prohibitively expensive. Today, it's becoming standard practice.
