China and ASEAN Launch AI Education Project for Millions

The 2026 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week announced a sweeping set of initiatives this week designed to transform how 11 nations share knowledge and prepare their young people for the future. At the heart of the plan is the Smart Education Capacity Building Project, which will use AI to bring quality learning to more students regardless of where they live.

The partnership represents nearly two decades of growing cooperation since the program launched in 2008. What started as simple student exchanges has evolved into a full-fledged framework for building skills, sharing technology, and creating opportunities across borders.

One standout initiative is already showing results. The new International Talent Entrepreneurship Park in Guiyang, China, is now home to 15 startups founded by ASEAN students who are turning their ideas into real businesses.

Meanwhile, the China-ASEAN Vocational Education Digital Competency Center has opened branches in Malaysia and Thailand. These training hubs will teach technical skills that travel across borders, helping workers find better opportunities throughout the region.

To make that mobility easier, organizers released a new framework that lets countries recognize each other's vocational training credentials. That means a certified technician in one country can now work in another without starting their education over from scratch.
