China Approves First Once-Daily Pill for Rare Blood Disease

A breakthrough treatment for a rare blood disease just gained approval in China, offering new hope to patients who've had few good options.

Haisco Pharmaceutical Group announced in July 2026 that China's National Medical Products Administration approved Ciprocopan Succinate Tablets for treating Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH) in adults. The drug is the world's first once-daily oral pill that targets this rare condition.

PNH is a rare blood disorder that destroys red blood cells, causing severe fatigue, kidney damage, pain, and breathing difficulties. Before modern treatments emerged, patients faced a grim prognosis with life-threatening complications like blood clots.

Current treatments have helped, but they come with serious limitations. Existing therapies require twice-daily dosing and often don't fully control the disease, leaving many patients still anemic, exhausted, and dependent on blood transfusions.
