China's EV Exports Jump 40% as Clean Transport Takes Off

Electric vehicles are conquering the world faster than almost anyone predicted, and the numbers from April prove it. China exported 278,081 EVs last month, a stunning 40 percent jump that brought the country's year-to-date overseas sales to nearly 900,000 vehicles.

The growth is happening everywhere. Asia imported over 110,000 Chinese EVs in April, while Europe and Latin America together brought in more than 136,000 vehicles.

Brazil saw the most dramatic shift among major importers, with demand skyrocketing 221 percent to over 38,000 vehicles. South Korea, Germany, and Australia also doubled or tripled their Chinese EV purchases compared to last year.

These aren't luxury purchases for the wealthy. EVs now make up nearly 30 percent of all car sales worldwide, helping families reduce fuel costs while cutting pollution in their communities.

The Ripple Effect

This transportation revolution is reshaping how the world fights climate change. Global EV sales hit 20 million vehicles in 2025 and are projected to reach 23 million this year.

China manufactures about 75 percent of the world's electric vehicles, creating jobs and driving innovation that makes EVs more affordable everywhere. Outside Europe and the US, Chinese models accounted for 55 percent of all electric vehicle sales last year.

The momentum continues despite new trade barriers. The US applies 100 percent tariffs on Chinese EVs and bans certain software, while Europe imposes tariffs up to 35.3 percent.

Yet demand keeps climbing. Countries across Asia, Latin America, and Oceania are embracing electric transportation as costs fall and charging infrastructure expands.

Every EV replaces a gas-powered car, meaning cleaner air for millions of people and meaningful progress on reducing carbon emissions. The shift is happening neighborhood by neighborhood, making cities quieter and healthier places to live.

As the world races to address climate change, this surge in electric vehicle adoption shows that solutions can scale quickly when technology and demand align.
