Chinese Electric Trucks Now Hauling Cargo Across Germany
A Chinese manufacturer just started delivering long-haul electric trucks in Europe, offering over 300 miles of range and an eight-year battery warranty. The move brings more affordable zero-emission options to European freight operators.
Electric semi-trucks are officially rolling across German highways, and they're coming from an unexpected source.
Sany, China's largest heavy machinery manufacturer, has begun delivering its e263 electric semi-truck to customers in Germany. The company aims to make long-haul electric freight more accessible across Europe, starting with Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Spain.
The timing matters for European logistics companies facing pressure to reduce emissions. Many have hesitated to switch from diesel to electric due to high costs and limited charging infrastructure.
Sany's approach tackles both concerns head-on. The e263 features a massive 636 kilowatt-hour battery that delivers over 300 miles of range, enough for regional routes and short-haul operations. The company backs this with an impressive eight-year warranty covering 750,000 miles, guaranteeing the battery will retain at least 70% of its capacity.
The truck handles serious loads too. When paired with a lightweight curtain-side trailer, it can carry up to 25 tons of cargo. That's competitive with diesel trucks, a crucial factor for companies watching their bottom lines.

Sany entered the European market through its 2012 acquisition of German concrete pump maker Putzmeister. Now Putzmeister adapts the China-built electric trucks for European roads and provides local customer support. The company partnered with Alltrucks, which operates 650 workshops across Europe, to handle maintenance and repairs.
The truck uses dual electric motors producing 730 kilowatts at peak power and features an 800-volt charging system for faster refueling. Three different power outlets let operators run equipment like refrigerated trailers or hydraulic lifts directly from the truck's battery.
The Ripple Effect
More competition in electric trucking means better options for everyone. As Chinese manufacturers like Sany enter Europe with more affordable models, established truckmakers will need to sharpen their pencils on pricing. That benefits logistics companies trying to go green without breaking the bank.
The partnership with Alltrucks' widespread workshop network also signals something important. Electric trucks are moving beyond early adopter phase into practical, serviceable tools for everyday freight operations.
Sany plans to unveil additional electric truck models later this year at the IAA Transportation show in Germany. The company sees strong potential in applications with predictable routes and depot charging, like port operations, construction supply runs, and system transport between distribution centers.
Kevin Eichele, who leads product development for Sany eTrucks Europe, emphasizes the vehicles offer significantly lower total cost of ownership compared to current options, though specific pricing remains customized for each customer.
For European trucking companies watching fuel costs and emission regulations, more choices in electric freight just became reality on their roads.
