Christian Bale Opens Foster Village After 18-Year Mission

Christian Bale just proved that some of his most important work happens off screen.

After nearly two decades of planning, the Oscar-winning actor and his wife Sibi opened Together California last week, a foster care village in Palmdale designed specifically to keep siblings together. The 11,000 square foot community features 12 furnished homes plus two studio apartments for teens aging out of the system.

The project started with a simple idea sparked by Bale's love for his own children. He couldn't shake the thought of kids losing their parents and then being separated from their brothers and sisters too.

"It doesn't take more than 30 seconds to imagine a child having no parents, being torn apart from siblings and the devastation of that," Bale told CBS LA. The facility can care for up to 72 kids at a time, giving them stability while they wait for permanent placement.

Los Angeles County faces the biggest foster care challenge in America, with over 30,000 children in the system. Research shows that keeping siblings together during this difficult time provides crucial emotional support and better outcomes.

"Oftentimes, the siblings are the core element that keeps that family together," explained Tim McCormick, executive director of Together California. Without that connection, kids face higher risks of homelessness and incarceration later in life.

Bale hopes this model becomes the standard across the country. His goal is straightforward: help kids understand that people care about them, that they're loved, and that their future holds real hope.
