Christian Bale Opens Foster Village for Siblings in California

Christian Bale has turned years of planning into reality with the opening of Together California, a foster care village built on one powerful promise: no more splitting up siblings.

The Welsh actor cut the ribbon on the Palmdale facility after learning a painful truth about California's foster system. Most siblings entering care get separated and grow up apart from each other.

The idea started when Bale and his wife Sibi had their first daughter. They wondered what would happen to her if they suddenly passed away, which led them to research California's foster system, the largest in the country.

"Imagine the absolute pain and the trauma of losing your parents or being torn from your parents, and then losing your brothers and sisters on top of that," Bale told reporters at the opening. "It's our job to turn their heartbreak and their pain into love and hope and a sense of future."

The village sits on nearly five acres purchased in 2022 and includes 12 fully furnished homes across 11,000 square feet. Each unit is designed to keep sibling groups together under one roof.

Bale didn't do this alone. The Austrian American Council West raised over $9 million for the project, and Leonardo DiCaprio contributed as well.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger played a key role in bringing the project to Palmdale. UCLA Professor Eric Esrailian, a co-founder of Together California, credits her with connecting the team to the right community partners.

Why This Inspires

This village represents something bigger than celebrity charity. It addresses a specific gap in the system with a concrete solution that will keep families intact during their most vulnerable moments.

With Los Angeles County housing more foster children than anywhere else in America, this model could inspire similar projects nationwide. Sometimes the simplest idea, keeping siblings together, requires the biggest effort to make real.

The doors are now open, and families will soon fill those homes with the thing foster care too often lacks: togetherness.
