Cleveland Guardians Win 3 Walk-Off Games in One Weekend

Sometimes the best wins are the ones you have to fight for until the very last moment, and the Cleveland Guardians just proved that three times in four days.

Cleveland completed a sweep of dramatic finishes against the Detroit Tigers this weekend at Progressive Field, capping it off Sunday when Daniel Schneemann hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning for a 3-2 victory. It marked his first career walk-off hit and the team's third of the weekend.

The remarkable part? The Guardians never held a single lead in any of these wins until the game-ending hit. Brayan Rocchio hit a walk-off home run Friday in Game 1 of a doubleheader, and rookie Travis Bazzana knocked a walk-off single in Game 2 that same day.

"What a great weekend," manager Stephen Vogt said after Sunday's thriller. "Obviously we wish we could win games differently and be a little more relaxed. But that's not who we are."

The timing couldn't be better. Cleveland improved to 73-71 and moved within two games of first place in the AL Central while reclaiming the third Wild Card playoff spot.

Starter Gavin Williams set the stage with six innings of work, striking out 11 batters to take the MLB lead in strikeouts with 228. He became just the fifth pitcher in Cleveland history with 11 or more double-digit strikeout games in a single season, joining legends like Bob Feller and Corey Kluber.

The bullpen kept the dream alive. Cleveland's relievers allowed just four runs over 17 innings during the entire series, with closer Cade Smith striking out five across two scoreless innings Sunday to set up Schneemann's heroics.

These wins matter beyond the box score. With 18 games remaining, every victory pushes Cleveland closer to October baseball. But more than that, the team is building something special: confidence forged in pressure.

"We're in the hunt. The weather's starting to turn. It's starting to feel like fall is coming," Smith said. "To have energy like that in the ballpark, and for us to grind and rally and come back and win like that is so much fun."

Williams put team goals ahead of personal glory despite leading MLB in strikeouts. "I think there's a bigger goal as a team," he said. "Yeah, it's cool, but there's a bigger picture, for sure."

Vogt sees these nail-biters as preparation for what's ahead. "The rest of the year feels like the postseason," he said. "Every one of these games gets our guys more and more confident with this experience."
