Clinic Revived After a Decade in Rural Liberia

For more than a decade, residents of Vai Kianway and surrounding communities in Grand Cape Mount County traveled long distances just to see a doctor. Their local clinic, built years ago with community support, sat empty and unused while families struggled to access basic healthcare.

That's changing now. Generation Liberia, through CEO Fanta Kamara, has started full rehabilitation of the Vai Kianway Clinic. Renovation work is underway to restore the facility to full operational status.

The clinic was originally constructed through efforts by the county administration and the late Senator Edward B. Dagoseh. Despite its strategic location, it remained closed for years due to lack of funding and sustained support.

Once reopened, the clinic will serve more than ten communities, including Kianway-Kianway, Kpesseh, Bontee, Sue, Gbama Lumeh, and Manogleh. Project coordinators report that renovation work is progressing steadily toward completion.

The Ripple Effect

This rehabilitation represents more than just one building reopening. For residents who previously faced hours of travel to reach medical care, the restored clinic means children can get vaccinated closer to home, expectant mothers can receive prenatal care, and basic health emergencies can be treated quickly.

The project is part of Generation Liberia's broader community development agenda focusing on health, education, and social services in underserved areas. Community leaders have welcomed the intervention as a needed response after years of watching their clinic sit unused.

Previous promises to revive the facility, including pledges during the 2023 elections, never materialized. This time, actual construction work and visible progress have given residents reason to hope that healthcare access is finally improving in their corner of Liberia.
