Curacao Wins Second Little League World Series Title

A team of young baseball players from the tiny island of Curacao just proved that heart and talent know no borders, crushing Nevada 11-2 to capture the Little League Baseball World Series championship in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Pariba Little League from Willemstad, Curacao, finished their tournament run without a single loss. They defeated powerhouse teams including Japan twice, setting up their Sunday showdown against unbeaten Nevada.

The game turned into a celebration in the fifth inning when Shardijon De Lanoi got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing home a run. The next batter, Juriensly De Windt, cleared the bases with a booming double to deep center field that stretched a close 4-2 game into a commanding 10-2 lead.

Nevada's Paseo Verde Little League from Henderson jumped ahead 2-0 early when Maddox Bryan singled home two runs in the second inning. But Curacao answered in the third with De Lanoi's two-run single, then grabbed their first lead in the fourth on Jaymiell Martina's two-run double.

De Windt did double duty for Curacao, not only delivering the crushing hit but also pitching the first three scoreless innings. Relievers Giendry Ryan and Steven Felix shut the door over the final three frames to seal the victory.

The Ripple Effect

This championship carries special meaning for Curacao, an island nation of just 150,000 people in the Caribbean. Their first Little League World Series title came in 2004 with a team that included future Major League stars Jurickson Profar and Jonathan Schoop, proving that world-class talent can emerge from anywhere.

The young champions ran victory laps around Howard J. Lamade Stadium carrying their championship banner, tipping their caps to thousands of cheering fans. Back home in Willemstad, the entire island celebrated a victory that reminds us all that determination and teamwork can overcome any size disadvantage.
