Dairy Industry Opens $30,500 in College Scholarships

Students dreaming of careers in agriculture just got a financial boost from an unexpected source: the milk on their breakfast table.

The National Dairy Promotion and Research Board is awarding 12 scholarships totaling $30,500 to college students passionate about dairy-related fields. Eleven students will receive $2,500 each, while one exceptional candidate will earn the $3,500 James H. Loper Jr. Memorial Scholarship.

The program welcomes sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled for the 2025-2026 academic year. Students don't need to major in farming to qualify. The board accepts students studying communications, journalism, marketing, business, economics, nutrition, food science, and agriculture education.

Funded through America's dairy farmers and importers, the program looks beyond grades alone. Selection committees evaluate academic achievement alongside leadership, initiative, and integrity. Students must also demonstrate genuine interest in dairy-related careers through their activities and work experience.

The application process stays refreshingly straightforward. Students submit an application form, official college transcripts, and a short statement describing their career goals and dairy-related experiences. Winners can even reapply in future years, creating opportunities for continued support throughout college.
