Dallas Firefighters Rescue Two Men From Flash Floods

Two men walked away safely Friday morning after Dallas Fire-Rescue crews pulled them from flash floodwaters that transformed a Dallas parkway into a dangerous river.

The rescue unfolded around 7 a.m. near the 7500 block of Merriman Parkway in Lake Highlands. Infant Guerrero, 30, decided to wait in his green Jaguar when he first encountered the water, expecting the rain to ease and the flooding to recede.

"I was waiting because I thought it was a calm rain, and I thought it would go down, which didn't happen," Guerrero told The Dallas Morning News. Instead, the water kept rising until it completely submerged his vehicle, forcing him to climb onto the roof.

A second man found himself in the same predicament nearby. Both remained stranded as the floodwaters continued to surge around them.

Dallas Fire-Rescue firefighter Alissa Keys arrived as part of the emergency response team. Using a specialized rescue boat, crews reached both men and transported them across the rushing water to dry ground.
