Dauphin County Needs 30 Volunteers to Help Foster Kids

When children face abuse or neglect, they need more than just a safe place to sleep. They need someone in their corner, fighting for their future.

That's where Dauphin County's Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) comes in. The organization trains community volunteers to advocate for children caught in the foster care system, helping guide them toward permanent, loving homes.

Right now, CASA is looking for 30 people to join their spring advocate training classes. These volunteers become crucial voices for kids navigating one of the toughest times in their young lives.

The work isn't easy, but it changes everything. CASA volunteers get to know each child's unique story and needs. They show up in court, speak with teachers and social workers, and make sure no detail gets overlooked in the search for the right home.

CASA provides all the training volunteers need to be effective. They teach advocates how to navigate the court system, communicate with different agencies, and most importantly, how to truly listen to what children need.

On June 11, CASA is hosting its fourth annual gala at Colonial Country Club. The "Once Upon a Time...in Oz" themed event will share real success stories of foster children who found their way home, thanks in part to dedicated volunteers.

These aren't abstract statistics. They're kids who now have birthday parties, bedtime stories, and someone who believes in them. They're teenagers graduating high school with families cheering in the stands.

Every child deserves an advocate who won't give up on them, and Dauphin County has 30 spots waiting to be filled by people ready to make that difference.
