The Energy Department backed Sila earlier with $10 million in research funding in 2021, then added $100 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in 2022. By that year, Sila earned its ISO 9001 certification, the industry standard needed to work with global automakers.
The company already produces enough anode material to power thousands of vehicles annually. As military demand drives production costs down and manufacturing scales up, those faster-charging, longer-range batteries could show up in civilian electric vehicles sooner than expected.
