Del Mar Students Win Awards for Kindness and Leadership

Nine students from Del Mar Union School District received special recognition in May for making their schools better places through creativity, courage, and care for others.

The Student Standout Awards honored young people across nine schools who excel in categories like arts, community service, fellowship, and science. Each winner was chosen for showing outstanding character and making a positive impact on their classmates and communities.

"These Student Standouts each bring unique talents and compassion to their school communities," said Superintendent Marisa Janicek. The awards celebrated students who strengthen connection and belonging across their campuses.

The winners brought remarkable stories of service and leadership. Avissa Witzens from Carmel Del Mar School earned two awards for her musical talents and her dedication to serving San Diego's homeless community.

Leonardo DeGrand from Ashley Falls School won recognition for his genuine kindness and ability to inspire others through collaboration. Kyle Feldman from Ocean Air School received honors for his natural leadership and commitment to helping everyone feel included.

Eira P. of Sycamore Ridge School took home three awards for compassionate leadership, gifted writing abilities, and advanced achievements in math and science. Gia Manganiello from Torrey Hills School earned recognition for making every student feel valued and included.
