Delaware County's Delco Gives Raised $2.2M in Year Two

A single day of giving in Delaware County has become a fundraising powerhouse, and organizers say year three could be the biggest yet.

Delco Gives returns May 6 for its third annual community giving event. The Foundation for Delaware County coordinates the effort, which channels donations to local nonprofits in a 24-hour fundraising blitz that ends with a celebration party on May 7.

The numbers tell a story of growing generosity. Year one brought in $1.7 million for participating nonprofits. Year two jumped to $2.2 million, and Foundation President Michael Kellerman believes the momentum will continue.

"We're all hopeful that we'll continue to go higher and higher because really the sky is the limit in terms of how many people can be engaged," Kellerman said.

The event works by creating a concentrated moment of giving energy. When everyone donates on the same day, it creates excitement that spreads through the community. Kellerman calls this phenomenon "contagious philanthropy," and the data backs it up.

Power Home Remodeling, based in Chester, returns as the presenting sponsor. This year brings a brand new platform and website designed to make donating easier for supporters and smoother for nonprofits collecting funds.

Nonprofits have until April 17 to register for participation. Bonus dollars and cash prizes will be awarded during the event to boost impact even further.

The money raised through Delco Gives touches every corner of Delaware County's nonprofit landscape. From food banks to youth programs, arts organizations to housing services, the event creates a rising tide that lifts hundreds of local causes.

Previous years paired the fundraising with community celebrations like Dining Under the Stars in Media. This year's culminating party moves indoors after weather challenges in the past, though organizers are keeping the new location under wraps for now.
