Denton Teachers Receive $170K in Grants and Scholarships

Teachers at 37 schools across Denton, Texas woke up to an unforgettable surprise when the Denton Public School Foundation announced it was distributing more than $170,000 in grants and scholarships at its annual pep rally.

The September 16 event celebrated 139 educators who took time after their already packed days to write grant applications. Their dedication paid off with funding that will transform classrooms, support new teaching tools, and help staff members continue their own education.

Dr. Kathryn Pole, board president of the foundation, put it perfectly: "Behind every check we delivered today is a teacher who sat down after hours to write a grant application, and a donor who trusted us to put their gift to good use."

The money went directly where it matters most. Individual teachers received 72 grants ranging from $100 to $1,000 for classroom supplies, technology, and new learning materials. Collaborative projects earned larger grants up to $4,000, helping teams of teachers work together on innovative programs.

New teachers just starting their careers at Denton ISD received 17 grants to help them launch strong. Another 18 staff members earned scholarships to continue their own education while teaching the next generation.

Katherine Quinones, the foundation's executive director, shared the joy of surprising teachers in their classrooms. "Our teachers and staff constantly go above and beyond for their students, and through the generosity of our community partners and donors, we are thrilled to invest directly back into their vision," she said.

The Ripple Effect

This investment will touch thousands of students across Denton ISD. When teachers get the resources and support they need, entire classrooms benefit from better technology, creative learning materials, and educators who feel valued enough to stay energized and engaged.

The Denton Public School Foundation has been doing this work since 1995. Over nearly three decades, it has awarded roughly $3.5 million in grants to teachers and staff, plus nearly $1.5 million in scholarships to graduating seniors heading off to college.

That's a community putting its money where its values are, one teacher and one student at a time.
