Dodgers' Alex Vesia Returns After Baby Daughter's Death

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Alex Vesia stepped onto the field Thursday for opening day, carrying an unimaginable weight alongside the joy of baseball's return.

Just months ago, Vesia left his team during the World Series to face what he called "a deeply personal matter." Days after the Dodgers won the championship, he and his wife Kayla shared the devastating news that their infant daughter Sterling had died.

"Life can change in an instant," Vesia told reporters in February. "For us, 10 minutes is all it took."

Sterling Sol Vesia lived only briefly, but her parents treasured every moment. They held her, changed her diaper, read to her, and loved her. Those precious hours became memories they'll carry forever.

As opening day arrived, Kayla posted on Instagram about the difficult milestone. "What I would give to have my Sterling girl here, carrying her in my heart always," she wrote.
