Dog Stolen 3 Years Ago Returns Home Night Before Adoption

After 3 years and 8 months apart, Shelton's dog walked straight up to his apartment like she'd never left.

The Boston terrier named Béa was stolen from Shelton's front porch in Los Angeles in July 2022, disappearing in minutes while he stepped away. For years, he searched relentlessly, posting flyers and chasing leads across the city.

"After a couple of years, the hope started to fade," Shelton told PEOPLE. But he never fully gave up, inspired by occasional stories of long-lost pets finding their way home.

Everything changed when a friend sent him an Instagram post from Wags & Walks rescue. The shelter had just taken in a Boston terrier as a stray and listed her for adoption under the name "Kit."

Shelton broke down in tears before even reading the caption. "I knew instantly it was Béa," he said, recognizing her distinct folded ears and expressive eyes.

He contacted the rescue immediately and arrived to meet her the very next day. The timing was extraordinary: Béa was scheduled to meet a potential adopter within 24 hours.

The reunion felt surreal at first. "She greeted me with happiness, but almost like I was a stranger," Shelton recalls, wondering if she felt confused or hurt by his absence.

But the moment they pulled up to his apartment, everything clicked. Béa jumped out of the car, walked straight up the stairs, and went directly to his door.

"That's when it hit me—she remembered," Shelton said. That night, she stayed right next to him and slept beside him the whole time, just like she used to.
