$150K Flag Football Program Unites MENA Youth for 2027

Young athletes across the Middle East and North Africa are getting a game-changing opportunity to compete on a regional stage while building connections across borders.

The MENA Freedom 250 NFL Flag Football program is investing up to $150,000 to develop flag football programs for youth across the region. Organizations in eligible countries can apply for grants between $100,000 and $150,000 to run local outreach events, train athletes and coaches, and organize youth engagement activities over the next 12 months.

The program welcomes applications from nonprofits, educational institutions, and international organizations with experience in sports diplomacy, cultural exchange, or international sports programming. Applications are open until September 14, 2026.

Participating countries will spend the year developing their national programs before coming together for a regional championship in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in March 2027. The event will bring together young athletes from across MENA for competition and cultural exchange.

The Ripple Effect

The program's timing taps into growing excitement around flag football, which makes its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Games. By starting now, MENA countries can build a foundation for developing competitive athletes while creating pathways for more young people to participate in sports.

Beyond athletics, the initiative aims to strengthen cross-cultural connections and collaborative capacity across the region. Young participants will gain experience in international competition while organizations build expertise in sports programming that can extend to future initiatives.

The program specifically encourages activities that increase youth participation, support athlete development, and create sustainable sporting infrastructure. For-profit companies can participate as in-kind partners by contributing expertise, equipment, or facilities while eligible nonprofits or institutions hold the actual grants.

Organizations interested in bringing flag football to their communities now have a clear path forward, complete with funding and a regional platform to showcase their athletes' development.
