Midland Realtors Raise $15K for Firefighters Youth Fund

When 150 golfers showed up to Sandy Ridge Golf Course on August 14, they weren't just playing for bragging rights. The Midland Board of Realtors' annual Charity Golf Outing raised more than $15,000 for the Midland Firefighters Youth Foundation, proving that a community united can make a real difference for its youngest members.

The foundation, created by local firefighters in 1987, supports academic programs, sports teams, clubs, and families in need throughout Midland County. Every dollar raised goes directly to ensuring kids can participate in activities they love, whether their families can afford it or not.

"This generous donation will help countless children and the programs to which they are passionate about, regardless of their financial stability," said Max Kopplin, president of the foundation and a Midland firefighter. The humbling show of community support means more scholarships, equipment, and opportunities for local youth.

The sold-out event featured games, raffles, and sponsor interactions throughout the day. Golfers had multiple chances to give beyond their registration fees, and they stepped up at every opportunity.

Casey Mallek, the golf outing committee chair, credits the success to teamwork. "To be able to turn a fun day on the golf course into a donation of more than $15,000 to an organization that directly supports youth in our community is something we are incredibly proud of," she said.

The Ripple Effect

This wasn't just about writing a check. When local firefighters invest in youth programs, they're building relationships that last long after the donation clears. Kids see their community showing up for them, learning early that people care about their success.

The foundation's 39-year track record speaks volumes. Since 1987, these firefighters have been quietly ensuring that no Midland County child misses out on opportunities because of money. Now, with this latest boost, even more kids will get their shot.

Local TV station WNEM helped spread the word before the event, giving the foundation and the golf outing valuable airtime. That visibility helped pack the course and inspired even more giving on tournament day.

Sandy Ridge Golf Course donated its facilities and staff support, making the event possible. Volunteers, sponsors, and committee members all pitched in to create a seamless experience that prioritized fun while maximizing impact.
