Double Rainbow Appears at Sunrise Mountain Wedding

Jihae and Stephen's sunrise wedding started with panic-inducing rain and howling winds. But what seemed like a disaster became pure magic when nature delivered the ultimate wedding surprise.

The couple chose to marry atop Tent Ridge in Canada's Alberta Rockies on July 12, 2025, with only their photographers Marcin and Dorota of BDFK Photography as witnesses. They started hiking more than three hours before sunrise, trekking through darkness to reach their mountaintop ceremony site.

Marcin admits he started "panicking" as storm clouds rolled in and wind whipped their faces during the climb. He worried they'd have to abandon the mountaintop plan and shoot at lower elevations instead, making their grueling hike pointless.

The couple stayed remarkably calm despite the threatening weather. After reaching the ridge, they changed from hiking gear into wedding attire: a white lace off-the-shoulder gown and a classic dark suit.

As they began taking portraits facing northeast, none of them noticed what was happening behind them. Then Jihae asked everyone to turn around.

Two brilliant rainbows streaked across the stormy sky, vivid against the dramatic dark clouds.

Sunny's Take

Marcin says the team "reacted like children" because they knew sunrise rainbows don't last long. The shoot became beautifully chaotic as they rushed to capture every angle, asking the couple to pose, walk, and run to make the most of nature's fleeting gift.

"It was one of the best moments Mother Nature has created for us in our career," Marcin says. He points out that while most couples prefer sunny days, "it's clouds, wind and rain that can create real magic."

The couple's willingness to embrace uncertainty paid off spectacularly. Their trust in the process transformed a stressful situation into unforgettable wedding photos neither rain nor shine could have created alone.
