Driver Saves Las Vegas Family From Backyard Blaze
A father and son's quick thinking turned a routine drive home into a life-saving rescue when they spotted flames engulfing a Las Vegas backyard. Daniel Pidit pulled over, evacuated the family, and fought the fire with a garden hose until firefighters arrived.
Daniel Pidit was driving home with his son when he spotted black smoke billowing from a Las Vegas home and immediately knew lives were at stake.
Without hesitation, Pidit pulled into the driveway and began evacuating residents from the burning property. Inside, Yvette Ground was resting while her two grandchildren were in other parts of the house, unaware that flames were rapidly spreading through their backyard.
Ground's grandson had heard a noise near the back gate but thought it was just one of the family's cats. Then came the urgent pounding at the front door that changed everything.
"A neighbor was banging really hard," Ground recalled. "He told us there was a fire in our backyard." That neighbor was Pidit, who had already sprung into action.
Once everyone was safely outside, Pidit and Ground's grandson grabbed the only tool they had: a short garden hose. Working together, they managed to knock down most of the flames before professional firefighters arrived to finish the job.

The home sustained significant damage and is currently unlivable, but the outcome could have been far worse. Everyone made it out safely, including the family's cats.
Sunny's Take
Ground knows how lucky she is. "I feel blessed," she said. "If it wasn't for him, we probably would have all fallen asleep. With my breathing problems, I might not have made it out."
For Pidit, the decision to stop was automatic. His focus stayed on two things: getting people to safety and preventing the fire from destroying the entire home.
"I'm just happy that they're all safe and the house didn't catch completely on fire," Pidit said. The family lost their home temporarily, but they kept something infinitely more precious.
Sometimes the difference between tragedy and survival is just one person willing to pull over and help.
