DTE Energy Invests $10B in Clean Power for 5.5M Homes

DTE Energy is making one of Michigan's largest clean energy commitments, pouring $10 billion into wind and solar projects that will transform how millions get their electricity.

The Detroit-based utility company announced plans to invest $36.5 billion over the next five years across its operations, with a significant portion dedicated to renewable energy. Through its DTE Vantage segment alone, the company will allocate $2 billion between 2025 and 2029 for customized energy solutions.

The numbers tell a powerful story about Michigan's energy future. DTE plans to add an average of 900 megawatts of renewable capacity every year for the next five years, enough to power hundreds of thousands of homes annually.

By 2042, the company's MIGreenPower program aims to generate enough electricity from Michigan-based wind and solar resources to serve approximately 5.5 million homes. That's more than double Michigan's total number of households today.

Energy storage is getting serious attention too. DTE is targeting more than 2,900 megawatts of storage capacity by 2042, addressing one of renewable energy's biggest challenges: keeping the lights on when the sun isn't shining and wind isn't blowing.

This investment represents more than cleaner air for Michigan residents. The renewable energy buildout will create thousands of construction jobs across the state over the next two decades.
