Dublin, Ohio Forms 1,000+ Person Shamrock, Beats Ireland

More than 1,000 residents of Dublin, Ohio stood shoulder to shoulder on March 14 to create something magical: a giant human shamrock that unofficially shattered the world record.

The previous record belonged to Dublin, Ireland, where 815 people formed a shamrock back in 2013. Now the Ohio city has claimed bragging rights over its Irish namesake.

Visit Dublin partnered with a Lexington marketing agency to coordinate the ambitious attempt right after the city's annual St. Patrick's Day parade. Hundreds of people stayed behind, ready to become part of something bigger than themselves.

"St. Patrick's Day is already a big moment for Dublin, but we wanted to create something that people could literally be part of," said Scott Dring, President and CEO of Visit Dublin Ohio. The sight of hundreds gathering to form the giant shamrock captured the city's Irish spirit perfectly.

The timing couldn't have been better. Fresh off celebrating with bagpipes, green attire, and parade floats, the community channeled their festive energy into breaking a record.
