Dutch Street Transforms Into Orange Paradise for World Cup

A quiet residential street in The Hague has exploded into an ocean of orange, transforming into one of the Netherlands' most vibrant celebrations of community and football.

Marktweg residents spent two months covering their entire street with thousands of flags, banners, and football decorations supporting Oranje, the Dutch national team. On June 9, locals and visitors from across the country gathered to admire displays featuring Dutch lions, national team stars, and World Cup imagery.

The tradition has become a fixture during major football tournaments, but organizer Danny van Dijk says it's about more than just the beautiful game. Volunteers from across the neighborhood worked together to create the spectacle, strengthening bonds between neighbors during uncertain times.

The Netherlands kicks off their Group F campaign against Japan in Dallas on Sunday, followed by matches against Sweden in Houston and Tunisia in Kansas City. Despite reaching three World Cup finals in 1974, 1978, and 2010, the Dutch team has never claimed the trophy.
