Thousands of e-bike owners may soon get an affordable path to dramatically safer batteries, thanks to a new discount program from Rad Life Mobility.

The company just announced plans to offer up to 50% off replacement Safe Shield batteries for older Rad e-bike models. These advanced batteries use special thermal-resistant material to isolate individual cells, helping stop a single failing battery from triggering a dangerous chain-reaction fire.

Details are still emerging, but the company is asking owners of older Rad e-bikes to sign up for updates. They'll be contacting eligible customers soon to learn more about their bikes and provide program specifics.

The timing matters. Late last year, the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a safety notice about certain older Rad battery packs after reports of overheating incidents. Battery fires have become a growing concern for cities, safety regulators, and riders nationwide.

Safe Shield technology represents one of the most sophisticated safety developments in consumer e-bikes. Unlike traditional battery packs that separate cells mainly with air gaps and plastic spacers, the Safe Shield system uses proprietary potting material designed to contain thermal problems before they spread.

This discount program could make advanced safety technology accessible to thousands of riders who might not otherwise afford an expensive battery upgrade.
