The Pro Football Hall of Famer was in town Sunday as a guest podcaster for MLB's Home Run Derby at the All-Star Game. He stepped into McGillins Olde Ale House in Center City knowing exactly what to expect from Eagles fans who watched him dominate their team for over a decade.

"Eagles fans know tough when they see it," one fan wrote on Instagram. Another 45-year-old Philadelphia native posted, "Even though you heard boos, I know you could feel the respect and love."

Irvin's grace through the years made this moment possible. After that devastating 1999 injury at Veterans Stadium, he never spoke negatively about the fans who cheered his departure on a stretcher.

"Philly wasn't cheering my injury. They were cheering my departure," Irvin explained years later. "Thank God he's leaving the field, he's been killing us."
