Levittown Native Signs with Eagles After Zero-Star Start

A Pennsylvania kid who couldn't get a single recruiting star out of high school just earned a shot at playing NFL football in his home state.

David Blay signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, bringing the Levittown native's remarkable football journey full circle. The defensive tackle worked out for the Eagles on Sunday and impressed enough to earn a contract as the team prepares for their preseason opener.

Blay's path to professional football looked impossible from the start. No major college programs recruited him out of high school, leaving him with a zero-star rating from recruiting services.

He started at Division II West Chester University, determined to prove the doubters wrong. After two years of development, he transferred to Louisiana Tech, where he finally got his chance to compete at the highest college level.

The breakthrough came in 2024 when Blay racked up 10 and a half tackles for loss and earned first-team all-conference honors. Suddenly, the player nobody wanted became one of the most sought-after transfers in the country.

Blay chose Miami for his final college season and started for a team that played for the national championship. He went from Division II obscurity to the biggest stage in college football in just three years.

The New England Patriots signed him as an undrafted rookie, but waived him last week. Instead of giving up, Blay immediately worked out for other teams and landed back home in Pennsylvania.
