Egypt Fencing Team Wins Bronze at World Championships

Egypt's national sabre fencing team brought home bronze from the World Fencing Championships in Hong Kong, capping off an incredible run with a heart-stopping 39-38 victory over Israel in the third-place match.

The team, competing in Hong Kong from July 22 to 30, showed remarkable resilience throughout the tournament. They opened strong with a commanding 44-33 win over Portugal in the Round of 32, then survived a nail-biter against Spain, edging them out 36-35 in the Round of 16.

The Pharaohs hit their stride in the quarterfinals, dominating Russia 45-35 to advance to the semifinals. Though they fell to Kazakhstan 41-32 in the semis, the team regrouped for the bronze medal match and delivered when it mattered most.

That final bout against Israel came down to a single point. After intense back-and-forth action, Egypt emerged victorious 39-38, securing their place on the podium and marking a historic moment for Egyptian fencing on the world stage.

The Egyptian Fencing Federation sent a complete support team to Hong Kong. President Captain Tarek al-Hossainy and Director of National Teams Ayman Ghoneim led the delegation, ensuring the athletes had everything they needed to compete at their best.

The medical team included Dr. Magdy al-Sabbagh as team physician, with physical therapists Ahmed Abdel-Ghani and Ghada Atef keeping the fencers in peak condition. Vice President Ahmed Samir also attended, representing African fencing at important International Fencing Federation meetings held alongside the championship.
