Egypt Trains 2,700 Students in AI Since 2022

Egypt just wrapped up the fourth year of a program that's giving thousands of students the AI skills they need to thrive in the modern workforce.

The Universities Capacity Building in Artificial Intelligence Initiative brought together Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Ministry of Higher Education to train 1,090 students from 10 universities this year. These young innovators developed 445 AI projects, turning classroom theory into practical solutions.

The program culminated in an exciting AI hackathon where 21 student teams competed to create renewable energy solutions. A team called Hacktastic from Ain Shams University took first place, showing how young minds are tackling climate challenges with cutting-edge technology.

Minister of Communication and Information Technology Raafat Hendi celebrated the growing partnership between government, universities, and private companies like Dell Technologies, which helped organize this year's edition. The collaboration ensures students learn skills that employers actually need, not just academic concepts that gather dust.

Minister of Higher Education Abdel Aziz Konsowa emphasized the country's commitment to digital transformation across its university system. The goal is making AI education, applied research, and innovation accessible to students nationwide.

The Ripple Effect

Since launching in 2022, the initiative has trained more than 2,700 students and supported 763 AI projects across Egypt. That's hundreds of young people now equipped to build Arabic-language AI solutions and contribute to Egypt's National AI Strategy.

The program bridges a critical gap between what students learn in classrooms and what they'll face in their careers. By focusing on practical applications and real-world problem solving, Egypt is investing in a generation ready to innovate.

These aren't just statistics. They represent thousands of young Egyptians gaining confidence, skills, and opportunities to shape their country's technological future while addressing challenges like renewable energy and sustainability.
