Elementary Kids Raise Funds From 24 States and 6 Countries

When Roosevelt Elementary School students in Rahway set out to raise funds for their spring programs, they never imagined their reach would extend across oceans.

The two-week Booster Fundraiser, held from March 17 through March 27, challenged students to connect with family and friends for support. What started as a local school event turned into an international effort, with donations arriving from 24 states and six countries, including Australia.

Every night during the campaign, students tackled character-building challenges that taught them about determination, communication, and community connection. They learned to share their school's mission with others and discovered how far their voices could travel when they asked for help.

The fundraiser wrapped up with a high-energy Fun Run on March 27 that transformed the school into a celebration zone. Students ran laps to upbeat music while teachers and classmates cheered them on, marking the end of weeks of hard work and outreach.

"This fundraiser was a fantastic way to bring our school community together and connect with our extended families and friends near and far," said school counselor Lori Poulos. "The Fun Run was a truly memorable experience for everyone."

The Ripple Effect

The money raised will fund two programs that directly benefit every Roosevelt student. Field Day will give all grade levels a chance to enjoy outdoor activities, team sports, and athletic challenges together.

The funds also support the school's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program, which rewards students who show kindness, respect, and responsibility throughout the year. These character lessons mirror what students practiced during the fundraiser itself.

The international response proved that school spirit knows no borders. Supporters from across the globe rallied behind Roosevelt students, showing that communities extend far beyond neighborhood boundaries.

Young students learned powerful lessons about persistence, connection, and the impact of asking for help while securing real resources for their school's future programs.
