Most people would hide in embarrassment. Carrington went back to Holy Trinity Tattoo Studio in Standish and asked them to add two words underneath: "Just joking."

"I'm more bothered that England hasn't won the World Cup than I am to have a tattoo on my leg," he told the BBC after his correction appointment. "It's just a tattoo."

The parlour's manager, Jamie Taylor, was so charmed by Carrington's attitude that he did the fix for free. The correction would normally cost around £100.
