Enugu Expands Free HIV Care Across All Communities

Enugu State in Nigeria just made a powerful promise: every resident will have access to free, quality HIV care, no matter where they live or who they are.

Health Commissioner George Ugwu announced the commitment Friday during a meeting with the Network of People Living with HIV and AIDS in Nigeria. The message was clear: healthcare is a right, not a privilege.

The state is already putting resources behind the pledge. Construction crews are building Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centers in every single ward across Enugu, bringing medical services closer to people who need them most.

The expanded facilities will offer comprehensive HIV services, from testing and treatment to preventing mother-to-child transmission and monitoring viral loads. Healthcare workers are receiving additional training to meet the growing demand.
