Ethiopian Runner Wins Two World Titles in Six Days

Ethiopian runner Likina Amebaw just proved she's unstoppable on any surface, claiming her second world championship in less than a week.

The 28-year-old crossed the finish line with her arms raised in celebration on Saturday, winning the 5km World Road Racing Championship in Copenhagen. Just six days earlier, she had dominated the 5000m at the Ultimate Championship in Budapest.

Amebaw took control early in the Copenhagen race, pulling away from Kenya's Caroline Gitonga at the 4km mark. She finished in 14:41, seven seconds ahead of Gitonga, with enough time to start celebrating before reaching the finish line.

Australia's Rose Davies claimed bronze with an Oceanian record of 14:50, edging out South Africa's Tayla Kavanagh by just one second. All six top finishers broke the 15-minute barrier, showing the fierce level of competition.

The victory helped Ethiopia secure the mixed team title alongside her teammate Aleshign Baweke, who finished fifth. It marked the perfect ending to three consecutive weekends of major competition for Amebaw.

The switch from track to road racing in such quick succession could have been challenging, but Amebaw made it look easy. "Running the 5km today was better and I felt good because I had prepared for road racing," she explained after the race.
