European Mom Adopts Indian Parenting Traditions

When Ksenia Kala moved to India pregnant with her first child, she had no idea her parenting playbook was about to get a beautiful rewrite.

The European mom, now raising four children with her Indian husband, recently shared how traditional Indian parenting practices quietly became the foundation of her family life. What started as cultural curiosity turned into everyday rituals she now swears by.

Co-sleeping was her first surprise. In Ksenia's European family, children typically moved to their own rooms around age five. But sharing a bed with her babies felt natural and made nighttime nursing effortless. "It helped me bond with my babies and made breastfeeding and night time parenting much easier," she explained in her Instagram post.

Then came the daily oil massages, an ancient Indian tradition she fell in love with instantly. Warm oil, gentle hands, and precious bonding time turned into a family ritual. She especially loves when grandmothers get involved, creating special moments across three generations while giving new mothers much-needed support.

Naming her children brought unexpected joy. Ksenia gave all her kids Indian names, drawn to how much thought and meaning goes into each choice. "I love how deeply connected those names are to culture, history, and values," she shared.

For birthdays, she adopted a tradition that celebrates mothers too. Ksenia wears a saree for each of her children's birthday parties, inspired by how Indian mothers dress beautifully for these occasions. "It reminds me that a child's birthday is also a special day for the mother," she said.
