EV Charging Network Reaches 300 Locations in 40 States

Taking a road trip in an electric vehicle used to mean carefully plotting charging stops and hoping they'd work when you arrived. Those days are quickly becoming history.

Pilot Company, which runs more than 900 travel centers across North America, just passed 300 locations with fast-charging stations for electric vehicles. Working with General Motors and EVgo, the company has installed 1,300 charging stalls across 40 states since launching the program in 2022.

The network now blankets about 75% of the lower 48 states, covering more than 2.2 million square miles. That means EV drivers can now tackle classic American road trips without range anxiety, from San Antonio to Jacksonville, Detroit to Tampa, or even between national parks in New Mexico and Arizona.

The charging stations sit along major interstate highways, right where travelers already stop for food, bathrooms, and fuel. It's the kind of practical solution that makes new technology actually work for regular people.

The partners aren't stopping here. They're more than halfway to their goal of 2,000 fast-charging stalls at 500 locations nationwide.

The Ripple Effect

This expansion does more than help current EV owners. It tackles one of the biggest reasons people hesitate to buy electric vehicles: the fear of getting stranded on long trips.

As charging becomes as reliable as gas stations, more families can confidently make the switch to electric. That means cleaner air in the communities near highways and less dependence on fossil fuels.

Pilot is also preparing for the future of freight. The company partnered with Tesla earlier this year to install semi-truck chargers at select locations along major corridors like I-5 and I-10, with the first sites opening this summer.

The message is clear: electric vehicles aren't just for short commutes anymore. They're ready for the open road, national parks, cross-country moves, and everything else that makes America mobile.
