Fairfield Wins Third Alabama 4A Basketball Title Since 2020

The Fairfield Tigers proved that championship teams know exactly how to start and finish strong.

Friday night at Birmingham's Legacy Arena, Fairfield High School seized control from the opening tip and never looked back, crushing Ashville 65-42 to win the Alabama Class 4A boys' basketball state championship. The victory marks the Tigers' third state title since 2020, all under head coach Maurice Ford.

Fairfield jumped to a commanding 15-2 lead in the opening minutes and maintained a double-digit advantage for nearly the entire game. The Tigers' suffocating defense held Ashville to just 32 percent shooting from the field and a dismal 2-for-17 from three-point range.

"We took it to them from right off the tip," Ford said. "I tell them defense wins championships. We locked up."

Senior Milton Jones led the charge with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocked shots, earning Class 4A state tournament MVP honors. Teammates Eric Williams and Jalen Kidd added 17 points each, with Kidd grabbing 13 rebounds to help Fairfield dominate the boards 37-23.

The Tigers shot an impressive 53 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free throw line. Their execution on both ends of the floor overwhelmed Ashville, who was making their first-ever championship game appearance.

Ashville briefly cut the deficit to five points early in the third quarter, giving their fans hope for a comeback. But Fairfield responded with a decisive run, ultimately pulling away to a 25-point lead in the final minute.

For Fairfield, this championship represents more than just a trophy. Coach Ford has built a culture of excellence and consistency in a program that now stands among Alabama's elite. Three titles in five years shows these Tigers aren't a flash in the pan but a sustained force in high school basketball.

For Ashville, reaching the championship game for the first time in school history marks a breakthrough season. Their 31-4 record and historic tournament run gives the Bulldogs' community something to celebrate and a foundation to build upon for future seasons.

The victory also showcased Ford's leadership under pressure. After receiving a technical foul at halftime that forced him to coach the rest of the game sitting down, his players rallied around him. "My guys told me at the half that they would take care of it and for me to chill," Ford said with pride.

Fairfield's dynasty continues, proving that defense, discipline, and determination create champions.
