Family Rescues Man From Burning Camper in Bismarck

A family's decision to investigate what they thought was a backyard bonfire turned into a life-saving rescue in Bismarck on May 24.

Ellen Moore was driving through the 3600 block of Chestnut Drive with her mother Patricia and stepfather Larry Mondy when they noticed flames near a treeline around 8 p.m. When they got closer, they realized a camper was fully engulfed in fire with flames towering 20 feet above the trees.

The Point Cedar residents immediately took action while firefighters raced to the scene. Their quick response helped emergency crews reach the victim, who survived the blaze and is now in critical condition at a local hospital.

Firefighters arrived to find the camper completely consumed by flames. The combination of the family's intervention and the fire department's rapid response prevented what could have been a tragic outcome.
