FAMU's Harambee Festival Returns Feb. 28 for Community Unity

When thousands gather at Florida A&M University's Will Packer Amphitheater on Feb. 28, they'll be doing more than celebrating culture. They'll be living the meaning of Harambee itself: "all pull together."

The 2026 Harambee Festival marks nine years of FAMU's signature cultural event, running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free admission. The Swahili word Harambee captures the festival's heart—collective responsibility and cultural pride that brings an entire community together.

"The Harambee Festival plays a vital role in our relationship with the Tallahassee community," said Vernon Bryant, the festival's project manager. Beyond celebration, the event showcases FAMU's academic programs and creates meaningful connections between campus and community.

This year's festival promises live entertainment and cultural performances that highlight the richness of African and African American heritage. Local vendors will offer food, art, fashion, and cultural goods throughout the day.

Families can enjoy interactive workshops and activities designed for all ages. Community partners will host giveaways, while information booths from FAMU's colleges and schools give visitors a window into university life.
