Fargo Couple Makes 275 Guests Bridal Party, Raises $25K

When Michelle Kommer and Dan Conrad got married in Fargo, North Dakota, they didn't just invite 275 people to watch them say "I do." They made every single guest part of the bridal party, potentially setting a world record while raising thousands for charity.

The couple, both 50-somethings marrying for the second time, met as coworkers back in 2013 when Kommer recruited Conrad for a position at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota. Both were married to other people then, and their paths soon diverged as their careers took different directions.

For nearly a decade, they rarely saw each other. Both went through divorces, built successful careers, and rebuilt their lives separately.

Then in 2024, mutual friends played matchmaker and suggested they reconnect over coffee. Kommer remembers the exact moment she knew this was different. "About two hours," she said with a laugh when asked how long it took to realize their coffee chat might become something more.

Their July 11, 2026, wedding became a celebration they called "Second Chances." The day started with an intimate ceremony at Ivy & Rose for just parents, children, and siblings. Later, 275 friends and family gathered at Brewhalla for a reception where everyone wore bridal party attire.

The officiant? Krista Andrews, who had been their divorce attorney and one of their matchmakers.

Because neither needed household items, the couple skipped the traditional registry entirely. Instead, guests chose one of three charities when they RSVP'd: the North Dakota Heart Gallery (which Kommer founded to help children find adoptive families), Sollera (supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence), or Make-A-Wish North Dakota.

Conrad's connection to Make-A-Wish runs especially deep. His now-adult daughter was once a Wish child herself.

The couple pledged to match every donation dollar for dollar. When the final numbers came in, the wedding celebration had generated $25,000 for the three organizations combined.

The Ripple Effect

This wedding did more than unite two people who found love the second time around. It mobilized an entire community of friends to support children waiting for families, survivors rebuilding their lives, and kids facing critical illnesses.

The world record attempt for largest bridal party is still being verified by Guinness. But the real record might be the one set for turning a personal celebration into community impact.

"We have amazing friends who have supported us during good and bad times," Kommer explained. "We wanted this wedding to be a celebration of them, not us."
