Finland's Air Guitar Champ Wins 2nd Title at 30th Contest

Aapo "The Angus" Rautio just proved that sometimes the best things in life require no actual strings attached.

The Finnish performer won his second straight Air Guitar World Championship in Oulu, Finland, scoring 34.8 points from a panel of performing arts professionals. He beat out competitors from 12 other countries who gathered to celebrate the event's 30th anniversary.

The competition might sound silly, but organizers insist it carries a meaningful message. Their motto says it all: "Make air, not war." They believe that if everyone came together to play air guitar, conflicts would end and the world's problems would fade away.

More than 50 contestants brought their best rock star energy to Oulu, Finland's newly crowned European Capital of Culture. Each performer got just 60 seconds to pretend they're shredding on an invisible guitar while judges scored their creativity, stage presence, and passion.

Japan's Nanami "Seven Seas" Nagura took second place, while America's Saladin "Six String Sal" Thomas rounded out the top three. The competition was part of the larger Delta Life summer carnival and Oulu August Festival celebrations.

What started as a quirky local event in 1996 has grown into a global phenomenon that brings people together across borders and cultures. Thousands more watch the championships via livestream, spreading good-natured fun and laughter far beyond Finland's borders.
