Fire Crew Rescues Crane Worker 200 Feet in the Air

When a crane operator experienced a medical emergency more than 200 feet above a Fort Worth construction site, firefighters turned a potentially tragic situation into a triumph of training and teamwork.

The dramatic rescue unfolded on May 6 at the JPS construction site on South Main Street. A worker operating a crane from a small booth high above the ground began suffering a medical emergency and couldn't safely climb down the ladder on his own.

Fort Worth firefighters arrived quickly and climbed up to provide immediate medical care. But getting the man down safely required something special: the department's Tactical Rescue Team, a specialized unit trained for high-angle rescues on bridges, buildings, and towering structures like cranes.

The team carefully secured the worker and lowered him onto the parking garage under construction below. He was then transported to a local hospital for further treatment. Every firefighter involved returned home safely that evening.
