Firefighters Save 3 Dogs in Under-15-Minute Furnace Fire

Three dogs are home safe tonight after firefighters raced against the clock to rescue them from a smoke-filled townhome in Lexington Park, Maryland.

On Sunday evening, August 2nd, 911 calls flooded in about a structure fire on Rogers Drive. Callers reported flames in a closet and thick smoke throughout the entire home.

Bay District Volunteer Fire Department's Engine 32 pulled up in under one minute. Smoke was already pouring from the middle unit of the row townhome when they arrived.

The human residents had safely evacuated, but they told firefighters their three dogs were still trapped inside. Without hesitation, crews grabbed their gear and headed into the smoke.

Inside, firefighters found the source of danger: a furnace fire with flames beginning to spread. The team worked fast, containing and extinguishing the blaze in under 15 minutes.

While battling the flames, crews searched for the frightened dogs. One by one, all three pets were carried to safety by the firefighters.

No one was injured in the incident, human or canine. The quick response prevented what could have been a devastating loss for the family.
