Firefighter Adopts Puppy He Saved From Burning Car

When firefighters arrived at a vehicle fire in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on January 25, they had no idea they'd be saving more than property that day.

Engine 1 responded to the blaze on South Sprigg Street during a winter storm with temperatures well below freezing. After extinguishing the flames, the crew discovered a small puppy hiding in the backseat, miraculously still alive.

The car's owner had abandoned both the vehicle and the young dog. The firefighters quickly brought the puppy inside a nearby convenience store to warm up and gave him oxygen using a special pet oxygen mask carried on their truck.

Despite the smoke and cold, the puppy survived without serious injury. The Cape Girardeau Fire Department shared the rescue on social media, expressing their amazement that the dog made it through such a dangerous situation.
