Firefighters Free Trapped Foal in Arizona Fence Rescue

When Eloy firefighters rushed to a home near Highway 87 and Houser Road on Wednesday, they expected a routine animal rescue. What they found was a thrashing young horse wedged underneath a pipe fence, panicking as it struggled to break free.

The foal's owner and a Coolidge animal control officer had already tried to help but couldn't calm the frightened animal. That's when Battalion Chief Travis Hartman stepped in with a crucial advantage: he owns horses himself.

Chief Hartman understood how to approach the scared foal without making things worse. He and his crew got into position around the trapped animal and prepared for what the fire department later called "old-fashioned brute strength."
