Firefighters Rescue Boy from Third-Floor Blaze in Ventura

A team of firefighters became heroes on a Sunday evening when they saved a young boy trapped three stories above a blazing duplex fire in Silverstrand, California.

Crews from Ventura County and Oxnard fire departments responded to the emergency call just before 6 p.m. on February 23. They arrived at the residential duplex on Santa Paula Avenue to find flames engulfing the garage and a child stranded on the third floor.

Firefighters from Oxnard Fire Department Truck 81 didn't hesitate. They climbed to the third story, reached the boy, and carefully guided him down to the second floor before helping him descend a ladder to safety on the ground.

Paramedics evaluated the child at the scene right away. Out of an abundance of caution, medical personnel transported him to a local hospital for further evaluation, but he appeared to be in good condition.
